Air conditioning has become an inseparable part of our lives, so much that it is nearly impossible to fathom a building design without it. These air conditioners not only provide people with cool air, but also enhance the quality of it, by removing dust, debris, bacteria and air borne pollutants like pollen, allergens etc.
Significance of Air Conditioning Covers
Air conditioning companies give special emphasis on the robustness and reliability of the components they use in manufacturing their product. With a cut throat competition for a larger market share, they just cannot afford to do otherwise. These components are designed to bear the effects of snow, wind, rain, sun, and extreme weather conditions, but some of the more delicate and environmentally exposed ones like coils fins and filters require constant cleaning and maintenance for the system to operate at an optimum level.
These parts can easily catch dirt and to protect them, air conditioning covers are used. There are basically three types of air conditioning covers:
- Dust covers: These are the simplest and the cheapest air conditioning covers available in the market. They are basically meant for the protection of the inside unit from dust and help in increasing the time period of the maintenance cycle. These covers are available in many colors, giving users the option to consider the aesthetics of the room while selecting it.
- Weather covers: Also called weatherized covers, they are meant specifically for the outdoor unit. As the name suggests, these covers provide protection from various weather effects like rain, snow etc. They ensure that the air conditioning unit stays put on the wall or in the window throughout the year.
- Insulating covers: These covers tend to form a vacuum around your AC, for enhanced protection. They are much more expensive than dust covers and their price depends upon the required dimensions.
To further explain the importance of the air conditioning covers, consider the case of a condenser coil which is directly exposed to the environment and is prone to develop a layer of dust around it over time. This layer of dust acts as an insulating layer and can affect the rate of heat transfer from the refrigerant to the outside environment, a factor which basically determines the efficiency of an air conditioner.
Air conditioners are calibrated to work at an optimum level and even a little alteration due to this added insulation can really affect the standard of cooling.
When the temperature of the refrigerant is high, its specific volume will also be high and more amperage will be drawn by the compressor to achieve the desired result. This will not only increase the cost of operation, but will also speed up the wear and tear process of the compressor. Once the compressor fails, the only way to operate the air conditioner again, is to install a new one. This was the effect of environmental contamination on just one of the air conditioner components, but goes to show the significance of air conditioning covers.
